Self-Assessment

Honest self-assessment is required for growth.  To appropriately self-assess goals and objectives must be clearly defined.  Without clearly defined goals and objectives, there is no framework to assess growth and achievement.

Ongoing self-assessment is vital to continued personal and professional growth.

Post Academia Reflections

In retrospect, being an older MLIS student with years of professional experience, especially in mental health, made more in-depth self-assessment possible. I self-reflect regularly and work to practice delegation and collaboration when appropriate.  I sought out a mentorship with a fellow library director.  This process has been constructive, and I look forward to supporting other library directors similarly.

The single biggest internal threat has been my tendency toward rigidity in ethics.  Ethics guide our professional practice and enable us to differentiate between personal opinions and professional responsibilities.  However, being flexible enough to find creative solutions in practice is crucial.
